Yesterday, I finally got down to see Orchid Mania at the Cleveland Botanical Gardens.
It’s an annual event that draws a mob of people around NE Ohio and lasts roughly through the entire month of February and beginning of March. Being a member, I go there every year. However, with such nasty weather this month, it was hard to get up the enthusiasm to drive through a snow storm to get my oil change, let alone drive down to University Circle. So, since yesterday was actually sunny and in the balmy 20s., I finally managed to finally take a stroll through there.
To see these incredible flowers blooming at this time of year is naturally a big crowd pleaser. It is one of the Cleveland Botanical Gardens’ most popular displays and a friend of mine who works there says that the plant sale done the last week of the show (where all these plants are up for sale) is mobbed by people eager to get their hands on some of them. Considering the many varieties of orchid available, from the more common moth and slipper orchids, to such beauties as the Miltoniopsis (commonly called the ‘pansy orchid’) there will be plenty for people to fight over.
Today, we had another winter storm crossing NE Ohio, dropping about four inches in my driveway. Therefore, I can honestly say that Orchid Mania was a nice respite from this never-ending winter. It ends March 8th so. for those in my area interested, you better get going!
