This morning, as I drove into work, I came across something on National Public Radio (NPR) that actually put a smile to my face. It was Renee Montagne’s interview with South African Soprano Pretty Yende, who is now performing in LA Opera’s production of The Marriage of Figaro, and I’m glad I caught it. I will let the interview link (which in turn has a link to the original broadcast) speak for itself since it’s an excellent interview. However, it is awe-inspiring to hear what Ms. Yende had to say about how she got interested in becoming a singer, and, despite some huge odds, how she achieved her dream. She hits it right on target when she talks about how you should make friends with your gifts. Things like this make you believe that it’s possible to achieve our own long cherished dreams as well. That’s not at all a bad thing. I also wonder if she will perform with the Cleveland Orchestra in concert.
